On 1 September 2007, Gomel-based ASDEMO and 'Ancestors' land' NGO from Turov (Gomel Region)presented in Gomel their joint program 'Protected territories and wild nature protection in Belarus'.

The program has been designed to include a study of environmental status of Belavezhskaya Puscha (pristine forest in the borderland of Belarus and Poland) and 'Prypyatsky' national nature reserve (situated in Prypyat river basin). The event was attended by young biologists, faculty members from Gomel Skaryna University, and local 'greens'. Presenters brought to notice of the audience such problems of the protected territories as their economic use, forest clearing as well as detrimental impact on part of the authorities and local population. In summing up of the meeting, it was decided to launch an environmental network as well as information campaign addressing the problems.
