ASDEMO (stands for Association of children and youth) is a regional NGO addressing a range of environmental and social issues. Active in Gomel Region of Belarus, ASDEMO has its main organization located in Gomel, with its filial branches situated in such district centers of Gomel Region as Rechitsa, Mozyr, Turov, Zhlobin, Rogachev, and Buda-Koshelyovo. ASDEMO espouses democratic and egalitarian values and is built on principles of voluntary participation, openness, and accountability. It fosters in its members responsible citizenship and is dedicated to resolution of societal problems, such as unemployment, related to the current economic recession; it acts as champions of human rights; and it makes its input in overcoming the aftermath of Chernobyl and protecting the environment.
Activities by ASDEMO 1. For many years, we are able to run our programs as grounded on our own resource base and relying on material and organizational assistance of our sponsors; 2. We disseminate environmental information, build up environmental knowledge, and organize our members for collective action for protection of the environment; 3. We render organizational and material assistance to groups and individuals engaged in music, fine arts, the scenic art, and sports; 4. We carry out educational as well as social actions, and organize meetings and direct actions as well as topical conferences and seminars; 5. We organize summer camps for children and young people both in Belarus and elsewhere; 6. We assist our school children and students wishing to communicate and cooperate with their peers from other countries; 7. We provide young people with initial organizational and applied skills via collective and individual action. Contacts
